Engaging God for Nigeria
- Our Lord Jesus taught us to pray – “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven” and that is why we are here.
- We want to engage God concerning the critical situations in Nigeria today.
- Engage means - to occupy or attract someone’s interest or attention.
- Only those who have come into Christ by the blood and stay inside Him by the cross are able to engage God. Only those who have a right standing with God are able to engage Him.We must pray for ourselves concerning our connection with God through the cross of Christ. We want it to be a strong connection that is engaged with our prayers for Nigeria.
- We are seeking God’s attention.
Prayer Points: For Ourselves
“For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose hearts are loyal to Him.” (2 Chronicles 16:9)
“For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose hearts are loyal to Him.” (2 Chronicles 16:9)
- Lord, I are here! Please let Your eyes locate me. I want to have Your precious attention and engage You through prayers. I want to secure Your gaze. Lord, I plead with You - look upon me in Your mercy.
- Your eyes are going to and fro the earth, because there is something You are searching for. Please Lord, help my heart to be loyal to You . Help me to know that it is a ‘holy search’ for people You want to engage in ‘holy business’ in our generation.
- When the fire of trials and tribulations come, let me be found loyal still. I want You to show Yourself strong on my behalf. Fill Your Spirit and so that I do not slack in my connection to You through the cross of Christ.
- Lord, You have worked upon our lives and revealed the mystery of the gospel in us. Why? So that we will be awake to our responsibility in You and arise to pray down the will of God in heaven.
- Lord, help me to know my responsibility - my responsibility to expand the frontiers of the kingdom of God while there is still breath in me. Those in the grave cannot engage God in prayer. Help me to stand in prayer concerning the increase of Your kingdom.
- Put Your burden into my heart for Nigeria, O Lord! I want it would be a heart cry. I have been given the responsibility to gain understanding of the issues plaguing Nigeria and carry them nation on my heart. I can’t carry on as though it has nothing to do with me. Help me to be concerned with what You are concerned about in Nigeria. Help me to cry for the wickedness and terrible atrocities going on there.
- Please cause Your burden for Nigeria to grow for each one of us on Monday HeartCry as we grow in knowledge of Your divine expectation. We want our prayers to be fervent.
- Please make us tenacious in prayer - to pray and pray and pray until something happens, not just when we are on the prayer platform but also in our closets. Do not allow us to be casual or complacent concerning the situation in Nigeria and what You are doing about it.
- This is the Word of the Lord to us:
“You are My friends if you do whatever I command you. 15 No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you. 16 You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.” John 15:14-16 (NKJV)
Fulani Herdsmen Crisis
The Fulani Herdsmen crisis one of the major issues in Nigeria at the moment.
It is enough for us to know that these herdsmen have been set on fire by hell to destroy the purpose of God in Nigeria.
One of the ways to catch a burden is through reports. The Holy Spirit will us have insight into the circumstances reported so that we can engage God on them.

Understanding the Fulani Herdsmen Crisis in Nigeria
Excerpt from: http://venturesafrica.com/understanding-the-fulani-herdsmen-crisis-in-nigeria-what-you-need-to-know/
The Fulani Herdsmen crisis remains a major issue in Nigeria. So far, thousands have been killed and many more have been expelled from their homes, and the Nigerian government does not appear willing to initiate any forceful action against them. Rather, they are requesting for pieces of land from states in order to provide the rampaging herdsmen with permanent feeding ground.
Who are the Fulani Herdsmen?
They are largely nomads who go through towns with their cattle. In Nigeria, the Fulani and the Hausa people dominate the northern states, with a population of well over 30 million. Notably, people of the Fulani tribe rarely ever use artificial birth control methods and, as a result of this, the tribe is very fertile, hence their vast population and their presence in almost every state across the country.
Why are they violent?
Due to the peculiarity of the activities of the herdsmen, they move from one place to another in search of pasture. In this process, the herdsmen have reportedly encountered cattle rustlers and made complaints to the relevant authorities who fail to investigate the issue, hence their purported reason for carrying arms about. During their journey, they frequently trespass farmlands owned by locals in their host communities, destroying crops and valuables. Attempts by farmers to prevent them from causing havoc are met with stiff and violent resistance. Most times, the farmers are overpowered, injured and killed, while others are evicted from their homes. Sometimes, the herdsmen are accused of taking these opportunities to steal, rape, raze houses and kill innocent members of the communities they pass through.
Responses from various stakeholders
Many Nigerians believe the president has deliberately shied away from commenting on the crisis, as it is widely known that he comes from the Fulani ethnic group. The inability of the Nigerian Police to contain them may spell greater doom for lives in susceptible areas.
_____________
The question is this - “Why are they violent?”
The nation of Fulani herdsmen is very large - all of them currently roaming around with an agenda to wipe out the purpose of God in Nigeria, in the guise of vengeance for cattle rustling
Psalm 2:1 - “Why do the nations rage, and the people plot a vain thing?” (NKJV)
“What fools the nations are to rage against the Lord! How strange that men should try to outwit God!” (TLB)
Psalm 2:2-8
The kings of the earth set themselves,
And the rulers take counsel together,
Against the Lord and against His Anointed, saying,
“Let us break Their bonds in pieces
And cast away Their cords from us.”
He who sits in the heavens shall laugh;
The Lord shall hold them in derision.
Then He shall speak to them in His wrath,
And distress them in His deep displeasure:
“Yet I have set My King
On My holy hill of Zion.”
I will declare the decree:
The Lord has said to Me,
‘You are My Son,
Today I have begotten You.
Ask of Me, and I will give You
The nations for Your inheritance,
And the ends of the earth for Your possession.
The Lord sits in the heavens and laughs. He is not perturbed about the crisis in Nigeria. He is not running around looking for a solution. He is amused at their folly, because He has already made His Son JESUS both Lord and Christ.
Those who have right standing with God; those who have exchanged their old life for the righteous life of Christ, can now come confidently to Him with much assurance to ask for the salvation of this raging nation of Fulani herdsmen. This is God’s divine expectation. May His will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Prayer Points: Ask of Me
- O Lord, You are God. Heaven is Your throne and earth is Your footstool. You have said to Your Son: “Sit at My right hand, till I make Your enemies Your footstool.” Psalm 110:1. Lord, Jesus, we call upon You. You have authority on earth to compel Your enemies to their knees.
- Lord, see the trail of destruction that is brought upon the nation of Nigeria – When You have suffered on the cross for all, including the nation of the Fulani Herdsmen. Lord, You will see the travail of Your soul concerning them and be satisfied. “The Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; He makes the plans of the peoples of no effect. The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the plans of His heart to all generations.” Psalm 11:10. Please look upon the treats of the Fulani herdsmen and bring their counsel to nothing. Forbid them from continuing to perpetrate their wickedness all over Nigeria. O Lord, frustrate all their evil plans; incapacitate them, O God.
- We agree with You that the purpose of God will be established in their midst. Bring to pass, Your determined counsel concerning each one of them.
- “Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.” Lord, let all the Fulani herdsmen know assuredly that You are the Lord and You are the Christ. Open our eyes to see that they have all been included in the crucified.
- “For it is written: “As I live, says the Lord, Every knee shall bow to Me, And every tongue shall confess to God.” Romans 14:11. Lord, we humbly ask of You to bring the nation of the Fulani herdsmen to their knees. How you will do it, we don’t know. But we bring them before you as our responsibility. Stop them in their tracks and send forth Your Word to them to deliver them from the hand of the enemy of their souls.
Fulani ministries reach out to other Fulani people with the Gospel of Christ across Africa.”The Fulani people are the largest unreached people group in the world. Over 99% have not had the chance to hear the Gospel for the first time. http://www.fulaniministries.org
"Arise, shine; For your light has come! And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you. 2 For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, And deep darkness the people; But the Lord will arise over you, And His glory will be seen upon you. 3 The Gentiles shall come to your light, And kings to the brightness of your rising." Isaiah 60: 1-3
Prayer Points: Fulani Ministries
- Thank the Lord for this ministry; thank the Lord for reserving His remnants among the Fulani people; Thank the Lord for these Fulani Christians who have arisen in their day to confront the darkness in their land.
- Let us ask the Lord to make them effective in their vision and mission to reach the Fulani people with the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.
- Let us ask the Lord to fill His Fulani kingdom labourers with His Spirit and help them to arise and shine for His cause as they go from place to place to locate the Fulanis across Africa.
- “The Gentiles shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising.” Isaiah 60:3. O Lord! Let Your Kingdom be established among the Fulani people; Please grant that families will come to the light of the glorious gospel through this Fulani ministry. Please grant that many Fulani herdsmen will come to You.
- Let us declare the promise of God concerning them from Isaiah 60:22 - A little one among the Fulani people will become a thousand and a small one a great nation. You, the Lord will hasten it in its time. Amen.
