Nigeria: Intercessors Arise!

Join This HeartCry Prayer- Every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 11.30am -1.30pm (UK Time)

Hebrews 10:12-13 (NKJV)

But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God, from that time waiting till His enemies are made His footstool.

Ephesians 2:6-7 (NKJV)
...and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

Romans 8:34 (NKJV)
Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.

Prayer for Ourselves
  • Let us thank God for what He has done for us. Thank Him for offering up Himself for our sins, thank Him for including us in His death and burial.
  • Thank Him for the work of the cross that raised us up together with Him to a higher plane - higher than principalities and powers, higher than the rulers of darkness, higher than spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
  • Lord, thank You for this supreme vantage point, thank You for this awesome privilege. Help me to walk in the reality of my new location every day.
  • Lord, we are here to pray for Nigeria because, even now, You are at the right hand of God making intercessions for us and You are waiting for the time when Your enemies will be made Your footstool.

What will God do when the time comes for Him to make His enemies His footstool?

Psalm 110: 1, 5-7
1 The Lord said to my Lord,
“Sit at My right hand,
Till I make Your enemies Your footstool.”
The Lord is at Your right hand;
He shall execute kings in the day of His wrath.
He shall judge among the nations,
He shall fill the places with dead bodies,
He shall execute the heads of many countries.
He shall drink of the brook by the wayside;
Therefore He shall lift up the head.

What is Jesus doing while waiting for God to fulfil His promises?

Hebrews 7:25 (NKJV)

Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.
  • Lord, as we are seated with You, keep us waiting with You for what God will do among the nations. Help me to know that – to those who eagerly wait for You, You will appear a second time apart from sin for salvation. Hebrews 9:28.
  • Lord, I have need for endurance so that while waiting, I do not become discouraged, Don’t let me draw back, but let me believe to the saving of the soul. Hebrews 10:39.

Nigeria Needs Intercessors
  • Tribal conflicts - Biafra agitators are making threats that northerners should leave the Igbo region and the northerners have issued the same threat.
  • Devastating riot between Hausa and Yoruba communities in Ile-Ife, killing 46 people and wounding 96 in March 2017.
  • Conflict in the Niger Delta region because of oil began around 20 years ago and is still ongoing.
  • People are preaching hate and deliberately aiming to bring Nigeria to disunity, to calamity and to irretrievable destruction.
  • Famine in parts of the country- the number of children affected is approximately 450,000 and 14 million people need humanitarian assistance.
  • Social problems – Corruption, poverty, greed, poor education, terrorism, domestic violence.
  • Infrastructure problems – electricity shortages, limited water supply.
  • Problems with the economy, rich getting richer, poor getting poorer.

The answer to all these problems is the gospel of Jesus Christ.

No social program or government strategy can bring revival to the hearts and minds of men. Men, women, girls and boys in Nigeria must hear the complete gospel, repent and be baptised into Christ.

To intercede is to plead on behalf of someone in difficulty or trouble. Nigeria is in trouble - We also must arise and intercede for her from our location in Christ.

Deborah Arose…

Judges 5:6-7
“In the days of Shamgar, son of Anath, in the days of Jael, the highways were deserted, and the travelers walked along the byways. Village life ceased, it ceased in Israel, until I, Deborah, arose, arose a mother in Israel.

The Result…
Judges 5:31
“Thus let all Your enemies perish, O Lord! But let those who love Him be like the sun  hen it comes out in full strength.” So the land had rest for forty years.

Prayer for Nigeria
  • Lord, help us to arise – arise to intercede.
  • Set my heart ablaze with Your compassion for souls pouring into hell.
  • Lord Jesus, You took me to Calvary to get rid of my sin and to give me Your life. Help me to arise in Your righteousness, like Deborah. Let me not be silent again.
  • Arise in me, O Lord, let Your enemies in Nigeria be scattered.
  • Let those who love You in Nigeria be like the sun when it comes out in full strength.
  • Raise men and women at every gate that will shine for Your cause in Nigeria.
  • Help them to arise in boldness.
  • Equip them with the mystery of the gospel, the only answer to the mystery of iniquity that is already at work in the nation.
  • Silence the foe and the avenger that is raging against the purpose of God.
  • Let the land of Nigeria have rest, O Lord.

Prayer for the President
Proverbs 21:1
The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord,
Like the rivers of water; He turns it wherever He wishes.
  • Pray that He will yield to the counsel of God.
  • Pray for his health.

Pray for the Vice President
(Acting as President at present)

Ephesians 6:10-20
  • Thank the Lord for giving us a man who fears Him to be in this position at such a time as this.
  • Pray that he will rule with wisdom from heaven, not with the wisdom of men. Help him to walk circumspectly as wise, redeeming the time in these evil days.
  • Lord, grant that he will be strong in You and in the power of Your might.
  • Uphold Your Servant by Your Spirit.
  • Pray that He will put on the whole armour of God so that He will be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
  • Reveal to him, Christ and Him Crucified. Let Him be sure always that He is there to represent the purpose of God. Let his time in office be known to have advanced the purpose of God in Nigeria.
  • Give Him utterance to open His mouth and boldly make known the mystery of the gospel.
  • Help him to take a stand for righteousness, knowing where he is positioned – higher that principalities and powers. Whenever he gets to a decision gate, help him by Your Spirit to choose Your way. Let him not be confused but be clear minded always.
  • Don’t let him every forget that he is Your ambassador in Aso Rock.
