Nigeria: A New Nigeria 'By His Spirit' (1)

Join This HeartCry Prayer- Every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 11.30am -1.30pm (UK Time)

Isaiah 43:1-21
  • Fear not, the Lord has redeemed Nigeria.
  • When she passes through waters, the Lord promised to be with her.
  • When she passes through the rivers, she shall not be over flown.
  • When she walks through fire, Nigeria will not be burned nor shall the flame scorch her.
  • Nigeria is precious in the sight of the Lord and God will honour her.
  • GOD LOVES NIGERIA (A picture of Israel in the book of Hosea).
  • We must not remember the former things nor consider the things of old.
  • BEHOLD!!! I (the Lord) will do a new thing, NOW it shall spring forth.
  • The Lord will make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
  • The Lord has formed Nigerians by HIMSELF.
  • They (Nigerians) shall declare HIS praise not the praise of men.
Current Issues
  • Nigeria lost out in the leadership position for the African Union (AU) Commission and will not be heard in the AU for the next four years. This has been due to lack of preparation, lack of patriotism and a presidency that was misled to endorse a greenhorn. The retired Deputy Head of the security department at the AU, Group Captain Sadeeq Shehu said that those who advised the government on this issue were either dishonest or unpatriotic and unserious;
  • Unemployment;
  • Housing crisis is in an emergency state (deficit of 17m units);
  • Against this background, we applaud the recent decision of the Federal Government to abolish the initial payment of 10 per cent equity for mortgages below N5 million;
  • Etisalat  N541.8billion debt crisis;
  • Arik Air going into administration;
  • Bribery and Corruption.

Prayer of Thanksgiving

Thank God for answered prayers - Our President has returned to Nigeria after 7weeks abroad.
Pray for his health.
Thanksgiving for those God used to lead us into independence.
Thank God for the journey so far for Nigeria - where she is now and where the Lord is taking her.

Prayers for Individuals / Church

Ezekiel 36:25-27
25 Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols. 26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27 I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them.

2 Corinthians 3: 12-18
12 Therefore, since we have such hope, we use great boldness of speech— 13 unlike Moses, who put a veil over his face so that the children of Israel could not look steadily at the end of what was passing away. 14 But their minds were blinded. For until this day the same veil remains unlifted in the reading of the Old Testament, because the veil is taken away in Christ. 15 But even to this day, when Moses is read, a veil lies on their heart. Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. 17 Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.

God’s Promises from These Readings:

A new heart and new and right desires for His children.
A new spirit within each person; His own Spirit to cause them to obey His laws and do whatever He commands.

He will make us clean. Our filthiness will be washed away.

The Lord will turn the hearts of the children back to the Father.

He will remove every veil blinding His children from beholding the truth. Today, a lot of minds are blinded.
Promised liberty where His Spirit is, not another spirit.

There is a glory WHEN we come before Him with unveiled faces.

There is a hope which allows us to use great boldness of speech.

  • Give us a heart, a meek and submissive heart, a heart that trembles not tramples on Your Word, a heart that desires to obey Your Word fully not partially.
  • Lord, create a right desire in all Your children.
  • Remove every veil of unbelief and fear. Replace all our fears with reverential fear for You only.
  • Let us pray for Church leaders that they will go back to the basics of our faith - Christ only, Christ in you/me/us the hope of glory. Without Christ, we are nothing.
  • Pray that the Body of Christ will see the sufficiency of Christ as the disciples of old did. In Him we live, in Him we move and in Him we have our being.
 Disciples
  • Father, take us back to the great commission of making disciples of all nations.
  • Take the Church back to raising men and women, young and old who will deny themselves, take up their cross daily and follow Jesus not a man or denomination
  • Multiply a disciple in Nigeria; men and women that when the world sees them, they will know that they have been with Jesus.
  • Make Your disciples (men and women) of ‘a humble and contrite heart who tremble at Your Word’.
  • Pray for the Christian Association of Nigeria; pray that the Lord will help them to break down barriers of denominationalism and unite the Church.

Prayers for Nigeria

Pray for:
  • Decision makers in all areas of life in the nation.
  • President, Vice President Senate and House of Representative, Local Government Chairpersons, Councillors, Academics, Colleges, Schools, Heads of Financial Institutions
  • Companies Directors, Non-governmental Organisations, Charity Organisations
What is God's definition of a 'blessed man'?

Psalm 1
Blessed is the man:
  • Who walk not in the counsel of the ungodly,
  • Nor stands in the path of sinners,
  • Nor sits in the seat of the scornful.
  • His delight is in the law of the Lord.
  • He meditates in it day and night.
Joshua 1:8
  • The book of the law must not depart from his mouth,
  • He meditates on it day and night,
  • He observes to do according to all that is written in it.
Jeremiah 17:7-8
Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord and whose hope is the Lord.

There is only one man who lived to fulfill all these - Jesus Christ, our Saviour and Redeemer. We are therefore praying for the Spirit of JESUS in our leaders whilst rejecting every other spirit that is not of Christ.
  • Make our leaders men and women broken in spirit, fully emptied for the master’s use; make them vessels unto honour.
  • Father, cause our leaders to look up to You for guidance.
  • Make them men and women of the Word of God (as we pray, let us believe even though we know some of them are not followers of Jesus).
  • May they not be men and women who look up to men or trust  in the arm of flesh.
  • Let them come to the reality that without Christ, they can do nothing and they can achieve nothing.
God said, “Behold MY Servant whom I uphold (Christ). My Elect One in whom My Soul delights.” Isaiah 42:1 God will instill into our leaders that God is the only One who can uphold them. The world system cannot uphold them.
  • The Lord will grant them Spirit of wisdom and understanding, Spirit of counsel and might, Spirit of knowledge and fear of the Lord.
  • May their delight be in the fear of the Lord.
  • May they be leaders who do not judge by the sight of their eyes nor decide by the hearing of their ears.
  • Let them judge the poor with righteousness and decide with equity for the meek of the nation.
  • May righteousness be the belt of their loins and faithfulness the belt of their waist.
  • Lord, we pray that You destroy every tribalism in the politics of Nigeria. Let men and women who You have ordained according to Your will, fill positions of authority. It will not because a particular tribe must fill it.
